Ayurveda is India's 5000 year old traditional system of natural medicine and healing. It has timeless and now proven methods of restoring balance and health in body, mind and spirit. It is the sister science to Yoga and translated as 'The Knowledge Of Life'.
As we transition into Fall, Ayurveda calls this "Vata" Season, we may already notice our bodies changing. In Ayurveda, the qualities (gunas) of Vata are cold, dry, rough, mobile, light and subtle. Some of us my be experiencing a dry roughness in the skin, nails and hair just a few days into the cool weather. We may also be experiencing more difficulty in balancing postures in yoga class, or in everyday activities. Focus and concentration can also feel a little off this time of year. Regardless of our own particular constitution or dosha (which we will learn in class!), we are effected by our natural world. Ayurveda teaches us how to balance these qualities in simple and logical ways, including foods to eat, that just makes so much sense!
We will learn the history of Ayurveda, it's application in our modern lives and our Ayurvedic Prakriti or Dosha (vata, pitta or kapha?). We'll also learn Ayurvedic practices, routines, eating habits and foods for balancing your dosha.
According to Ayurveda, the goal is not just a high functioning physical body, but a mind and spirit to match. As we accumulate stress in our modern lives, we feel tired, our digestion slows, we battle mood, aging and a multitude of physical ailments that can keep us from realizing our spiritual nature. When the body becomes dense, heavy and non-responsive, it tethers us to a dull state of being and thinking. Ayurveda teaches us ways to lighten the load, feel balanced, energized and whole.
Ayurveda is simple wisdom we can use every day to restore optimal physical health and gain mental and spiritual clarity. In this workshop, you will learn some very simple ways to begin incorporating this ancient wisdom into your everyday life today.
Much of the information widely accepted in Ayurveda for thousands of years has only very recently been proven by modern science! The ancient seers and rishis were so attuned to their physical bodies it is truly astounding to contemplate how they could have been so acutely aware of the most subtle aspects of being. Their knowledge and what they have known for 1000's of years will amaze you!
