NEW WEEKLY CLASS! Earthing with Crystal Singing Bowls at Blackburn Park

NEW WEEKLY CLASS! Earthing with Crystal Singing Bowls at Blackburn Park

What is Earthing? It’s the act of getting outside and exposing yourself to your natural habitat under the shining sun, floating clouds, chirping birds, big beautiful trees, bodies of water, flowers and grass underneath your feet. Earthing is the process of connecting to the Earth's electrical current by simply laying your body on the ground. This practice is rooted in the theory that the electrical charges from the Earth can have a positive impact on your body. Studies show that just by simply laying on the Earth your body is able to de-stress and balance the autonomic nervous system, improve heart rate variability, reduce inflammation and pain, get better sleep and improves response to trauma.

These same benefits have been found with sound healing as well. Join Jenn Hawkins inside Blackburn Park for one hour of sound healing using crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, bells, chimes, rainstick and tongue drum.  This class is all about receiving the good vibrations from the bowls and Mother Nature. You simply get cozy, lay back, relax and receive the healing properties of Mother Earth. You are welcome to practice with self guided movement if you feel called and need movement to the body.

Class will be held in the open field surrounded by big, beautiful trees, next to the parking lot off Edgar Rd close to the ballfield and bird sanctuary. Class is visible and easy to find. Link to park with map of the park and directions: https://www.webstergrovesmo.gov/171/Blackburn-Park

Class will be held in the upstairs studio if undesirable weather occurs.

Join us for this 6-Week In-Person Transformative & Healing Journey for Women Seeking a Deeper Connection with Themselves

Course Highlights:

  • Reclaiming Femininity: Our journey begins with a sacred reconnection to the essence of our femininity. We'll peel away layers of societal conditioning to celebrate the sacred power within us. Through practices, meditations, and discussions, we'll rediscover the divine essence of being female.

  • Embracing Sensitivity as Strength: Sensitivity, often misunderstood as weakness, is a profound gift. This week, we honor our sensitivity, exploring its strength and guidance. Through guided exercises, we'll learn to embrace our emotions and intuition as powerful tools in navigating life's journey.

  • Healing from Isolation: In our modern world of seeming disconnection, we forge a sanctuary of unity and sisterhood. Through open-hearted sharing and collective activities, we heal the wounds of isolation, celebrating the transformative power of mutual support in our individual and collective awakening.

  • Releasing the Chains of Competition: We delve into the patterns of competition that have stifled our growth and sisterhood. Cultivating a spirit of collaboration and celebration, we free ourselves from competition's constraints, stepping into a realm of abundance and empowerment.

  • Embracing Sacred Interdependence: Challenging the notion of toxic independence, we open ourselves to the beauty of interdependence with all life. Acknowledging our need for connection and support, we discover that true strength blossoms from vulnerability and collective unity.

  • Nurturing and Healing Our Bodies: Our physical bodies are temples of wisdom and intuition. This week, we dedicate ourselves to loving and honoring our bodies through movement, body awareness practices, and rituals, celebrating their sacredness and the wisdom they hold.

Class Format: Each week, participants will gather for a session filled with guided meditations, group discussions, experiential exercises, and healing rituals. This structure allows for deep personal reflection, integration, and growth between gatherings, fostering a profound connection with the Divine Feminine within.

Sunsets, Singing Bowls & Stress Relief in Blackburn Park

Unwind from the work week and connect back with nature as you bask in the setting sun! Lay upon the earth absorbing all her goodness while grounding and earthing yourself back into the here and now. Allowing the crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, antique bells, chimes, rain stick and all the sounds of nature and the living world to wash over you.

This class is all about receiving the good vibrations and does not offer guided yoga poses. You simply get cozy, lay back, relax and receive the healing properties of Mother Earth, the setting sun and the crystal singing bowls!

Sound healing is a profound tool to assist you on your journey as you release and grow. It works as the frequencies and the tones move through the physical and energetic bodies while tapping into the subconscious mind. Supporting your path of releasing and restoring the body, mind and spirit back to the frequency of love. Sound healing has the strength to remove energetic blockages, reduce inflammation and pain in the physical body, and it encourages feelings of peacefulness and ease.

Grounding, sometimes called earthing, is the process of connecting to the Earth's electrical current.

This outdoor sound series will run for five months and will be brought indoors to the downstairs studio in case of inclement weather. The start times do vary as we are catching the setting sun.

  • Friday May 3rd 6:45pm - 7:45pm

  • Friday June 21st 7:15pm - 8:15pm

  • Friday July 26th 7:00pm - 8:00pm

  • Friday August 23rd 6:30pm - 7:30pm

  • Friday September 20th 5:45 - 6:45pm

Please bring everything you need to lay comfortably for one hour. A blanket or two, bolster, bug spray and a yoga mat. You are also encouraged to lay directly on the grass. If you are unable to lay on the ground, please do bring a chair that has full back, neck and head support. You are also welcome to bring in a self-guided practice to the mat if your body needs movement during this outdoor sound session.

Cacao Shamanic Journey

Cacao has been used for centuries as a way to connect deeper with Mother Earth and our Heart Chakra. It is a soft and powerful way to sit in ceremony. Hape is another sacred Shamanic natural medicine used in ceremony that is made from powdered tobacco and herbs. Both of these help us feel profoundly grounded and open to receive the guidance, clarity, and healing we are seeking.

In this ceremony you will be guided through a meditation to ground with mother earth and father sky. In the meditation, you also will be guided into the sacred temple within your heart to connect with your higher self and your inner child by communing with ceremonial cacao and hape while receiving sound healing from shamanic drumming and singing bowls.

Our ceremony will end with a group oracle card reading.

The Ouch in Your Slouch
May

The Ouch in Your Slouch

Lack of ergonomic support, bodily distraction and disconnection, and long seated working hours all contribute to freezing in uncomfortable positions like forward head posture. Even when standing and walking, we don't necessarily remedy our sitting compression, contributing to a slouch that can inhibit deep breath, lock up our mobility, foster brain fog and mood changes, and lead to overall discomfort and lack of energy.

In our time together, you'll learn about the interconnectivity of posture, the nervous system, and general wellbeing. We'll practice finding a naturally tall spine, learn new muscle memory to stay comfortably upright without overcorrecting, move gently, deepen the breath, and invite more mindfulness into how we inhabit our bodies. This workshop is designed to help you gain freedom in the neck, back, and breath, and give your spine some much-needed TLC.

New Harmony Retreat: Conscious Interdimensional Contact

As a group, we will work as one to connect with higher dimensional beings and other supportive energies that seek to assist humanity at this time. Also known as a CE5 event (close encounters of the fifth kind), success in connection depends upon a shared commitment to open-minded and open-hearted communication, unhindered by any doubt or fear whatsoever. To participate, you must have attended the Compassionate Cosmos session earlier in the day, as this assures all participants are aligned with the spirit of the event.

Release & Transformation through Movement

Release & Transformation through Movement

Join us for an introduction to the elements of movement! All movement will be gentle and will be done standing. We will fulfill somatic cravings to meet your body exactly where it is to process from an instinctual level to release emotions, efforts, and tensions in surprising and refreshing ways.

Facilitation will be given through the use of movement imagery, creative prompts, and inspired interactions designed to expand your creative repertoire in beautiful and interesting new directions. The traditions this group will draw from include Movement Efforts, Kestenberg Rhythms, 5-Rhythms Meditative Dance, Authentic Movement, and so much more!

This week we incorporate the elements of spirit, stillness and integration

We encourage you to bring a practice of non-judgment and permission to have fun to these classes as we will be focusing on creative movement as a form of controlled release by taking a broad overview of grouped themes. If you are someone who is looking to deepen your relationship with your body as a source of wisdom and insight, or if you are curious about Dance Movement Therapy as a form of spiritual inquiry this is a great group for you! We get to take a load off of your nervous system by processing things on a body level so you can feel better quicker and without the need for extensive verbal processing, journaling, or intellectualizing; although the facilitator is available to process any of these with you afterward.

Please note that by joining in, participants are agreeing to listen to their bodies by going at their own pace, including utilizing the adaptations of movements offered to their physical limitations/needs during the session. All prompts and facilitation are also optional and participants may choose to simply observe for some activities or take a break for one song.

FREE ELDOA

ELDOA is for all fitness level. No prior ELDOA or yoga experience is required. It compliments any form of exercise well, and is great for anyone who would like to reduce back pain, improve posture, and prevent injury.

ELDOA was designed by French osteopath Guy Voyer. The ELDOA are very precise postures that target a specific joint region to provide relief from pain and restore balance. They aim at widening the space within a pair of joints. As the ELDOA “create“ space, there is an improvement in joint mechanics, increased blood flow, reduced pressure on the discs, a reduction of pain, and spinal disc rehydration. ELDOA is great from anyone who would like to counteract the “bad habits” of modern life, such as, being hunched over a keyboard all day and staring down at a phone.

Unroll Your Upper Body
Jun

2:00 PM14:00

Unroll Your Upper Body

In today’s world we spend a lot of time hunched over screens and immersed in our own heads. Our shoulders get tight. Our upper back stiffens. Our necks start to ache. All these things add up and make trying to relax a bit (or more) of a chore, as we feel rolled up or rolled inwards.

If any of this resonates, then this 2-hour workshop may have something for you.

You’ll be guided through simple exercises with massage therapy balls, and gentle movements and yoga postures combined with simple breathing techniques all designed to work in concert to help the body unwind so that you can find relief and true relaxation, which allows the body and mind to rest and recover.

Modifications will be offered to those who may not feel at home in traditional yoga postures.

This will be a gentle class with yin elements—no yoga burpees (sun salutes) or vinyasa flow.

Therapy balls will be provided to all in-studio participants, and if you’re joining online, you can purchase a set at the following link: https://www.tuneupfitness.com/shop/massage-balls/yoga-tune-up-therapy-ball

All experience levels are invited to connect to their body and breath, and find the ease that lies within.

Summer Solstice Sound Journey & Restorative Yoga

Summer Solstice Sound Journey & Restorative Yoga

Join us in celebrating this next cycle on the wheel of the year, the summer solstice, by connecting with vibrational frequencies that help align us with abundance, energy, and compassionate transformation.  Couple the amplified healing energy of the Summer Solstice while receiving the healing vibrations of Tibetan and crystal singing bowls and you have a recipe for bliss. As above, so below. As without, so within. The microcosm mirrors the macrocosm. And all growth and evolution occurs through cycles.

The energy of the solstice is an external expression of an internal impulse. There’s a momentum in breaking free and breaking through. Transitioning in times like these can be hard, so we call upon the compassionate mother to show us nurturing and grace as we reverberate on this journey of our evolutionary turning.

Summer Solstice initiates the sun's transition into Cancer bringing us the watery, nourishing, creative energy initiating emotional connection and clearing. This sign wants to feed, nourish, provide safety, create intimacy and give life. Cancer is The Mother, and her warm embrace is awaiting you.

By holding sacred space, being fully present, and listening with compassion, Spiritual Companions encourage the True Self to unfold.

The mystics of all the great traditions teach that as we discover this True Self, we also discover the Divine, the One, God, Mystery…

SOLD OUT! Blanket Fort Yoga: Mini Retreat and Playshop

Creating sanctuary is an art essential to childhood. We are born connoisseurs of comfort, carving out private spaces for ourselves to dream, grow, and relax. This energy is brought to life in treehouses, blanket forts, and our own vast imaginations. While navigating the long and winding road to adulthood, we fall out of the practice of cultivating sacred and nourishing spaces just for ourselves. This playshop and mini retreat is a symbolic return to that space of childlike wonder. It is a reestablishment of all things cozy and rejuvenating, and an exploration of deep rest through soft support. This is a space for daydreaming, journaling, community, guided movement, catching your breath, and resting deeply. It is a valuable reminder that we can access that same sanctuary from years ago, land in it to make space in hurried lives, and return again and again to find peace.

The following will be provided and available to all participants:
-yoga bolsters, sandbags, eye pillows, and mats
-blankets and chairs for fort building
-coloring pages, colored pencils and crayons
-guided movement, meditation, pranayama, and relaxation
-unstructured time for reflection, journaling, and rest
-sipping chocolate, tea, and mugs

Snuggle inside your fort, move and wiggle, rest with support, and recommit to cultivating more ease in your life!

To ensure there are enough props for all, attendance is limited to 6 people.

A Holistic Spring Detox: Ayurveda's Path to Vitality

A Holistic Spring Detox: Ayurveda's Path to Vitality

Join us as we move out the old and welcome in the new! This time of year can have us feeling stuck in patterns or ruts, we can feel dense, physically or energetically, cloudy in our thinking and unsure in our decision making processes. This is common during the transitional time between seasons so it is the perfect time for a detox.

From an Ayurvedic approach, a cleanse or a detox is about opening the channels to move toxicity out of the physical, mental, emotional and energetic bodies by bringing nutrients in. And it includes toxicity in all realms of life. Some of us will focus on food and drink, others will focus on habits and lifestyle changes, some will want to detox from social media and screens, and still others may want to detox from belief systems and karmic patterns. Ayurveda's approach truly is holistic.

Ayurveda's approach is also most powerful in it's simplicity- to make lifestyle changes gradually over time to ensure that you are able to sustain your new habits and enjoy the deepest possible benefits long term.

Studies show that transformation happens faster and lasts longer when we participate in a group through this process. We will experience accountability as we stay connected through daily group interaction and receive daily guidance from Joy, guiding us on our detox journey. This will be an entirely different approach to the way we think about detoxing or creating new habits.

Through many years of my own detoxing experiences, the approach I’ve found most effective and the one I want to share with you, is to start our detox at the level of the brain! We have to shift our neurochemistry to move beyond will power and into a balanced approach that helps us make changes that last and become new habits.

We will explore different Ayurvedic techniques for nourishment, cultivating body wisdom, removing toxicity, and building vitality. You will take what works for you and leave the rest behind. In my own life, I have found these habits to reduce inflammation, increase energy, improve sleep, clarity in thinking and decision making, and boost creativity and joy!

While the ayurvedic practices and techniques we will explore each week can help us detox in any facet of our life, we will also be sharing simple recipes for food and drink, and learn about digestive spices and herbs. Recipes will be balanced and delicious, protein and nutrient rich, vegetarian and one pot. You will not go hungry! The focus is on satiation, not deprivation.

You will also learn about the doshas and make choices for your specific mind-body type about food, spices and lifestyle habits and practices that are best for you. These new understandings and habits can improve sleep, boost energy, soothe fatigued adrenals, heal the digestive and lymphatic systems, and clear toxicity on mental and emotional levels as well.

We will create a loving presence for the body and nurture it back to wholeness. This approach is not about will power, it’s about changing biochemistry and neurochemistry, and letting the body and intuition to lead the way.

This cleanse includes:

Loving Kindness Meditation

Loving Kindness Meditation

In this monthly class, we will explore the Buddha's teachings on the four qualities of the awakened heart: loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity.

As the mind is liberated through our meditation practice, so too the heart is freed. When these 4 qualities are well established in the heart / mind, there is a sense of “dwelling” in more peaceful "abodes" known as the Brahma Viharas or "Divine Abodes". This metaphor is pointing out the nature of the boundless heart- these qualities are available to us all to develop and deepen for greater well being.

We will explore daily life exercises for developing this radiant and responsive heart as well as traditional meditations to cultivate these 4 heart qualities for greater balance, joy and ease in our meditation practice as well as in daily life.

This class is designed to deepen your practice within a supportive community.

Classes will include time for Metta, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity meditations with instructions, a brief talk and reflections/Q&A.

Acupuncture & Crystal Singing Bowls

Take some time for yourself to relax, recharge, and reset for the spring with a 90 minute sound bath and acupuncture session with Jennifer Hawkins and Dr. Olivia Bracken.

The season of spring is about birth, growth and moving forward with life. In Chinese Medicine, it is correlated with the wood element and the Liver and Gallbladder. Our wood element is the officiant of the body and is in charge of making plans, devising strategies, making decisions and coming up with ideas. Feeling stuck or stagnant?

This may be a good time to detox and recharge the liver and gallbladder.

Olivia will perform a detoxing and yin nourishing treatment that moves your liver and gallbladder energy but also centers and grounds you. While Reiki Master and Sound Practitioner Jennifer Hawkins will play the crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, bells, chimes, and a rain stick allowing the sound waves to stimulate the needles and amplify treatment.

One needle will be placed on each arm and each leg to clear inflammation and move physical or emotional stagnation in the body.

One needle will be placed on each arm and each leg to balance yin and bring peace and tranquility to the body and mind.

A total of 8 points will be used, and in unison, will bring a sense of calmness to the mind and spirit, giving clarity of vision of your paths, dreams and ideas. It will help you become clear with boundaries, direction and purpose.

(Please wear pants so that ankles/lower legs can easily be accessed.)

Journey to an Empowered Life as an Empath

Yes! Being an Empath is a real thing. Join us for this workshop to learn more about what it means to be an empath and how you can empower yourself and create a thriving and purposeful life.

One of the most significant challenges of being an empath is the emotional overload that often accompanies the ability to feel deeply.  Empaths are particularly sensitive to the emotions of others, and it can be challenging to distinguish between your own feelings and those of the people around you.  This can lead to feeling overwhelmed, anxious, uncomfortable or drained.

This class will help you boost self-esteem and gain confidence and clarity.

In this workshop, we'll focus on the importance of speaking your truth and learn strategies to cultivate empathy in any type of communication. We'll learn how to trust the heart and the gut instead of the head. protect, ground, and clear our energy. And we'll develop ways of using your empathy as your superpower!

This class creates a safe space for empathic and highly sensitive people seeking tools to navigate anxiety and overwhelm for improved confidence and balance in all aspects of life.

Learn to overcome the tired and drained feelings from picking up energy that is not your own by shielding and grounding yourself to protect your energy and live in peace.

Spring Forward Yoga Nidra Reset

Spring Forward Yoga Nidra Reset

Every year, we are forced to lose an hour of sleep to the end of Daylight Savings Time. This “time warp” helps bring us more quickly into the light of spring, but losing just one hour of precious sleep can have dire consequences to our health and well-being. Our yoga practice is often an antidote to the stressors of daily life, and the end of Daylight Savings is no exception!

Yoga Nidra is often translated as “yogic sleep.” In this full-body guided meditation, participants will be brought into a state of consciousness that induces restorative theta and delta brain waves (the same produced in deep, calming sleep). This amazing benefit means we can experience about FOUR hours of conventional sleep in just ONE hour of Yoga Nidra. This pop-up class is an opportunity to deeply and comfortably rest, offering a sweet reset to the nervous system and physical body. Participants will leave feeling as though they’ve regained that lost hour of sleep and so much more!

Teacher Training & Immersion 2024

Teacher Training & Immersion 2024

Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga are conducting a 200HR Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher Training Program and Immersion for anyone wanting to become a certified yoga teacher or simply deepen their yoga practice and understanding of yoga's roots. The content of this course encourages meaningful engagement with all 8 Limbs of Yoga and how they apply to our modern lives.

What makes this Yoga Teacher Training distinctive is its ability to draw from a wide spectrum of yoga practices, philosophies and techniques. This training promises to deliver intellectually stimulating content, physically empowering practices, and spiritual connection. There is a large focus on spirituality, meditation, pranayama, and philosophy as well as anatomy, alignment and physical postures.

Joy and Jill created this teacher training to be about more than just teaching. While the success rate of motivated students becoming teachers through this course is high, many take this training to deepen their experience of yoga in their daily life and gain a deeper understanding of yoga's history, philosophy and practical application in today's world.

Each training weekend is infused with the mythical stories of Yoga. We will weave the iconography, mythology, mantras and energy/role of that deity throughout the philosophy teachings, meditations and chanting, covering many of the most widely recognized in the Hindu pantheon.

This is a Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Training. During this training, you will also develop skills and education around Trauma-informed yoga.

Upon completing this training, all students will have free access at no additional cost to a mentorship/coaching program headed by Joy and Jill to further develop your skills as a yoga teacher or deepen yoga in your everyday life after the completion of the training.

Every student receives unlimited free yoga classes at both Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga for the duration of the teacher training.

Requirements for this training: A desire to learn and immerse yourself in the teachings of yoga. Physical strength and flexibility are not requirements to be a yoga teacher. The desire to better yourself and those around you are the requirements for this training.

This training is designed to connect you to your inner teacher and guide. This is not a set of prescribed sequences that must be delivered with prescribed speech. It is a map to lead you to that inner wisdom and voice of the teacher within. Intuition, creativity, connection and thoughtful application are the cornerstones of the knowledge and teaching methods you will gain. Teachers will learn the art of sequencing, knowing that there is never just one way, but that there is always an authentic and intuitive approach.

Regardless of where you find yourself in your yoga practice, this training will transform each of us on every level. Welcome to your brand new beginning!

Some of our recent graduates said it best...

After many years of Yoga and several years of internal debate about teacher training, Joy and Jill's class at Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga came recommended by a couple of mutual friends. The class was perfect for what I wanted to achieve. I wanted a class that balanced the physical asana practice with broad spiritual perspective. That and so much more were taught over the 10 month period. I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking to take their practice to levels beyond the basics of Yoga. Namaste. -Geoff

I can not say enough great things about Joy of Yoga and my teacher training. I would give my experience a 15/10 if I could. I learned so much and so grateful for the training. This was life changing for me in all the best ways. So if you are thinking about teacher training, Joy of Yoga is amazing!!!! The best in my opinion!! Joy Page and Jill Dunlap are the best teachers!! - Sandy

Joy and Jill led us on an incredible TT journey of many steps and many breaths! It was wonderful and am so thankful for their insight, guidance and support. -Caroline

Joy and Jill’s 200hour training program is well thought out and executed. They provide ample time and attention to anatomy, philosophy, and meditation/breathwork. The program was shaken up by the pandemic of 2020 and they did an amazing job continuing our education throughout these unsteady times. Their attention to detail and personal connection to their students made us all feel safe. I am so proud to be part of a training program that teaches from the heart and is more trauma informed with their language and teaching styles. This program is one that can not be compared to many and is my top choice for training in St Louis. -Rachel

My teacher training was taught by two amazing yoga teachers, Joy Page of Joy of Yoga and Jill Dunlap of Wildwood Yoga and Wellness. We got caught in an unprecedented time due to COVID and both Joy and Jill were able to continue our training without much hiccups. They found creative ways around all the hurdles keeping the training challenging and interesting for us. Having two teachers teach us exposed two different perspectives and far exceeded my expectations. Jill and Joy are well versed in yoga in practice and its philosophy and are thorough. Both go beyond what may be needed for this class and you can see that they have put a lot of time and effort. Jill and Joy are both very humble and very caring. I highly recommend their yoga teacher training program. Thank you Jill and Joy. -Bhanu

My experience with Jill and Joy was one that I will carry with me forever! I started this journey for my own personal growth and expansion of my practice. It became so much more to me. Jill and Joy are not only beyond knowledgeable, but they are supportive, positive, and caring. Their program teaches so much more than just asanas. If you are looking for a program that will stretch your thinking and understanding of yoga, make you grow in ways you did not even think possible, and will challenge you to find your inner voice, this is the one for you! I cannot recommend this program enough! I am so thankful that I found it. Enjoy your journey! Namaste. -Lindsey
